— After no NFL team would sign him, Greg Hardy is taking his talents to another sport.

The former Cowboys defensive end has decided to pursue a career in mixed martial arts.

“I’m very focused and excited to start my MMA career,” Hardy said in a statement on MMAFighting.com. “I’m going to do this the right way, I can assure you of that.”

Hardy has no background in the sport, according to the website, but has been training for several months.

Hardy faced charges of domestic violence and was placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt List for almost the entire 2014 season. He was let go by the Panthers and the Cowboys picked him up. However, after a 2015 season filled with controversy in Dallas, Hardy was not re-signed this year, and he remains a free agent.

“I’m fully committed to being as successful as I can be in this sport,” Hardy said.

— Aly Raisman is not only the second most decorated Olympian in history, she’s also a sock designer.

A few years ago the 22-year-old Needham native teamed up with Feat Socks to design patriotic socks to raise money for breast cancer.

Her latest design, revealed on Tuesday, is her most memorable.

It features a picture of her parents watching her compete — an image that went viral during the Olympics.

Her parents, Rick and Lynn Raisman, are known for their elaborate reactions to their daughter during her gymnastics competitions in the Olympics, and this is the most famous image of them.

The family still resides in Needham and just bought a new home there.

— Derek Jeter’s wife does not like baseball.

Sports Illustrated supermodel Hannah Davis Jeter married Jeter in July and didn’t watch baseball before meeting her husband.

And even after she began dating the Yankees five-time World Series champion in 2012 she still didn’t know baseball very well.

“Not really,” she told TMZ. “Barely.”

Jeter also made a rare reference to his personal life when asked what he has been doing during his retirement.

“I got married, man,” he said. “So yeah, there it is.”

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “I do not feel in-game strategy is the biggest thing as a manager.” — Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski, announcing John Farrell will be the Red Sox manager in 2017

THIS DAY IN SPORTS HISTORY: In Game 5 of the 1916 World Series, the Red Sox beat the Brooklyn Dodgers, 4-1, to clinch their second straight championship. A crowd of 42,620 was on hand to see the win at Braves Field.
